Overview

The Pink Triangle Legacies Project offers a limited number of paid Public History Internships per year. Through these virtual internships, PTL Project Interns develop a wide range of marketable skills as they produce new profile resource kits for the LGBTQ+ Stories from Nazi Germany initiative, manage the PTL Project's social media channels, and work with our Director on special projects.

The internship is:

Part-Time: Internships last approximately 15 weeks and require approximately 7 hours of work per week, including a weekly 1 hour Zoom meeting with the internship supervisor, PTL Project Director Jake Desai-Newsome.

Fully Virtual: All work is conducted collaboratively online and requires no in-person commitments.

Paid: Internships provide a stipend of $1,000 and additional benefits (see below for more details).

Eligibility

Pink Triangle Legacies Project internships are open to anyone in the United States who:

is committed to preserving and sharing LGBTQ+ history
has easy access to a university or public library for conducting the necessary research
has equipment to record their videos, such as a laptop, smartphone, or camera
has a Gmail account (all work will be conducted on Google Drive)
is 18 years of age or older

Tasks & Duties

Pink Triangle Legacies Project Public History Interns spend their time working on two main projects:

LGBTQ+ STORIES FROM NAZI GERMANY

Interns research, write, and produce one profile resource kit to be added to the PTL Project’s LGBTQ+ Stories from Nazi Germany initiative. These profile resource kits tell the true story of a queer person who lived during the era of the Holocaust. To serve different learning styles, each profile resource kit includes the following, all of which are created by the intern:

A digital essay of no more than 1,100 words;
A PDF handout of no more than 600 words;
A 5-7 minute YouTube video

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
Interns create content and manage posts for PTLP's Instagram account. In addition to sharing historical content and information about the PTL Project, interns should be able to conceptualize and design posts that are timely and responsive to current events.

Additional responsibilities include:

Designing posts in our Canva Pro account
Managing post captions and hashtags
Developing and executing strategies to promote follower engagement

Compensation

Upon the completion of the internship, Public History Interns receive:

$1,000.00
A personalized, signed copy of Pink Triangle Legacies: Coming Out in the Shadow of the Holocaust
Professional review of and feedback on professional materials such as resumes and cover letters

Additionally, the PTL Project will work with your school or organization to help you receive internship or class credit for your internship. It is the responsibility of the intern to find out what paperwork and documentation that their school or organization needs.
