Melissa Ellis
Digital Asset & Research Advocate
Melissa Ellis (she/her) is a history graduate from Newcastle University, England with a special research interest in homosexuality during the interwar years to the Nazi period. Her dissertation ‘’Perceptions of homosexuality 1918 - 1945 in Germany and wider Europe’’ focuses primarily on homosexuality and homosexual culture in Berlin from the end of the First World War until 1945.
Melissa has a background in history, data management, and marketing which allows her to provide not only historical insight but also assistance with promotion, data coordination and analysis and social media.
Through the Pink Triangle Legacies Project, she hopes to continue her research and provide detailed accounts of those who suffered under the Nazi regime, most of whom remain under researched and underrepresented. ‘’I volunteered with the Pink Triangle Legacies Project after finishing my studies. During my project, I realised that the availability and accessibility of this information was incredibly limited. I wanted to change that. Through the Pink Triangle Legacies Project I hope to continue my research and publish forgotten stories and memories which could otherwise remain untold. ’’
Melissa is volunteering her time and skills by creating a digital asset management database for the Pink Triangle Legacies Project, which will allow us to more efficiently store and organize files that we use for resource creation and social media posts. She will also create a profile resource kit for our LGBTQ+ Stories from Nazi Germany initiative. She intends to write her first profile on Renée Sintenis, a German sculptor known for the Berlin Bear statues which was used as the design for the top award for the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin (Berlinale).
