Political Engagement Advocate
Christopher Belden (he/him) is a recent graduate from Manhattan College. Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, History, and Peace and Justice Studies, he was recognized as the top student in all three programs.
From July - November 2024, Chris is a Political Engagement Advocate for the Pink Triangle Legacies Project. In that role, he researches key issues and ballot initiatives concerning the LGBTQ+ community in the United States in the lead up to the November 2024 elections. He's designing social media posts that educate and empower our followers with the information they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box.
Chris was previously the Assistant to the Director at the Holocaust, Genocide, and Interfaith Education Center in Riverdale, New York where he coordinated logistics for the Center’s Holocaust and interfaith education programming and developed refugee advocacy initiatives. Throughout his tenure at the Center, he was a Research Fellow at the Herman and Lea Ziering Archive, a Jasper Summer Research Scholar at Manhattan College, and an Interfaith Civic Leadership Academy Fellow at the Interfaith Center of New York.
Furthering his education, Chris is attending American University’s School for International Service as a candidate for a Master of Arts in Ethics, Peace, and Human Rights this fall.
Reflecting on his motivation to join the PTL Project, Chris shared, "The Pink Triangle Legacies Project’s commitment to educating the public on LGBTQIA+ persecution as a mechanism to combat homophobia, transphobia, and bigotry motivated me to be a part of its mission. PTLP’s mission is needed now more than ever with the growing anti-LGBTQIA+ political climate worldwide. With PTLP’s tireless effort in making LGBTQIA+ education more accessible, I am honored to work with PTLP to empower the LGBTQIA+ community. I fervently believe only through education and acting upon that education by making informed decisions and being active citizens can we forge a more equitable society."
